Millennium Declaration.

- Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was set up.
- The MDGs encapsulate eight globally agreed goals in the areas of poverty alleviation, education, gender equality and empowerment of women, child and maternal health, environmental sustainability, reducing HIV/AIDS and communicable diseases, and building a global partnership for development.

- The development MDGs only involved EPU.
- Malaysia published MDGR 2005.

- DOSM started to develop MDGs.
- Received fund from UN to build a platform for MDGs indicators.
- MalaysiaInfo as well as appointed as focal point in coordinating data collection.
- There were 11 agencies involved in providing data on MDGs.

Malaysia published MDGR 2010.

- The process of reporting achievements of MDGs 2015.
- DOSM requested for technical assistance and Technical Working Group (TWG).
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (RIO+20) 20 - 22 June 2012
- The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (RIO+20),
- Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- From 20 to 22 June 2012.
- Resulted Rio+20 Outcome Document which is an agreement by Member States to launch a process to develop a set of sustainable development goals that can be used to pursue focused and coherent action on sustainable development.
- Open Working Group (OWG) was established.
- Malaysia was represented by EPU and NRE.

2012 - 2014
- Series of meeting OWG was conducted
- Malaysia was represented by Permanent Representative in New York
- 17 Goals and 169 Targets were developed from this OWG

- Objective of meetings:
  • To finalize post 2015 development agenda which is reported in Outcome Document

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 25 September 2015
Malaysia has expressed commitment along with 193 other countries to support and implement the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2015)
