Annual Economic Statistics (AES) Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply, 2022

Introduction
This report presents statistics on the Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sub-sector acquired from the Annual Economic Survey 2022 for the reference year 2021. The key statistics consist of gross output, intermediate input, value added, number of persons engaged, salaries & wages paid and value of fixed assets.

Performance of Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply Sub-sector

Gross output of this sub-sector rebounded to 0.3 per cent to RM65.0 billion in 2021 as compared to RM64.8 billion in 2020. In line with the improvement in the gross output, intermediate input grew by 10.2 per cent with a value of RM37.1 billion, resulting a decrease in the value added by 10.4 per cent, to record a total of RM27.9 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, the number of persons engaged declined by 1.3 per cent or 656 persons to register 51,046 persons in 2021. The salaries & wages paid contracted by 3.5 per cent, which amounted to RM3.9 billion as compared to RM4.0 billion in the previous year.
