The principal statistics of the overall economic sector in 2015 showed significant growth. This is in line with the Gross Domestic Product where the findings of Economic Census 2016 showed an increase in the value added from RM0.7 trillion in 2010 to RM1.0 trillion in 2015. Value of gross output increased 7.5 per cent per year from RM1.7 trillion in 2010 to RM2.5 trillion in 2015. Manufacturing sector was the main contributor to the of gross output of RM1.1 trillion, followed by Services (RM964.7 billion), Construction (RM177.9 billion), Mining & quarrying (RM131.1 billion) and Agriculture (RM73.9 billion).
The number of establishments operating in 2015 was 920,624 compared to 648,260 in 2010 with an annual growth rate at 7.3 per cent. In 2015, Services sector contributed the highest number of establishments with a contribution of 88.9 per cent followed by Manufacturing (5.3%), Construction (4.4%), Agriculture (1.3%) and Mining & quarrying (0.1%) sectors.
Selangor recorded the highest number of establishments for the whole economic sector of 183,268 establishments followed by W.P. Kuala Lumpur (136,237) and Johor (99,770).
The number of persons engaged increased 1,783,593 persons to 8,732,238 persons in 2015 as compared to 2010 with an annual growth of 4.7 per cent. Total salaries & wages paid amounting RM245,696 billion in 2015.
The women-owned establishment recorded in 2015 was 187,265 establishments with an annual growth of 8.0 per cent compared to 2010. Gross output contribution was RM85.0 billion, 3.4 per cent from total gross output of the national total gross output with value added RM39.6 billion.
