INTRODUCTION

This publication presents statistics on the professional services that was compiled based on Economic Census conducted in 2016 for reference year 2015. Professional services comprise activities of architectural; engineering; land & quantity surveying; accounting; legal; advertising; management consultancy and market research; veterinary; scientific research & development and technical testing & analysis; and other professional. 

PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

Findings   of   the   census   showed   a   total   of   34,045   establishments   operated   in    professional   services   compared   to   19,215  establishments   in   2010, increased   by 14,830 establishments. The annual growth rate was 12.1 per cent annually.

Value  of  gross  output generated  by this services in 2015  was  RM40.4  billion, increased by RM19.5 billion or 14.2 per cent per year. In line with value of gross output,  the  value  added  recorded  an  increased  of  15.6  per  cent  annually  posted  at  RM24.3 billion.

Number of persons engaged in professional services was 314,292 persons in 2015 compared to 165,062 persons in 2010 with annual growth rate of 13.8 per cent per year. This services recorded a total of 284,323 persons as paid full-time employees with percentage share of 90.5 per cent, while working proprietors and unpaid family workers 24,433 persons (7.8%) and paid part-time employees 5,536 persons (1.8%). Meanwhile,   the   total   salaries   &   wages   paid   in  2015  were   RM10.1  billion  compared  to  RM4.4 billion in 2010 with annual growth rate of 17.8 per cent annually. 

WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS

In 2015, there were 4,124 women-owned establishments in professional services compared to 2,800 establishments with annual growth rate of 8.1 per cent per year. These accounted 12.1 per cent of the total establishments in these services.
