Value of Gross Output of Arts, Entertainment and Recreation Services Recorded RM20.0 billion in 2015

INTRODUCTION

This report presents statistics on arts, entertainment and recreation services that was compiled based on Economic Census undertaken in 2016 for reference year 2015. Arts, entertainment and recreation services encompass creative, arts and entertainment activities; museums, amusement and cultural activities and sports and recreation activities.

 

PERFORMANCE OF ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT AND RECREATION SERVICES

In  2015,  a  total  of  6,683   establishments   operated   in   arts,  entertainment   and   recreation   services   as   compared   to  6,307 establishments in 2010. This total registered a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.2 per cent per annum. 

Value of gross output generated for arts, entertainment and recreation services amounted to RM20.0 billion as compared to RM15.8 billion in 2010. This total registered a CAGR of 4.7 per cent per annum. Value added of this services posted RM8.6 billion with a growth of 8.3 per cent per annum. 

Number of persons engaged in arts, entertainment and recreation services were  57,975 persons as compared to  43,400 persons in 2010. This total registered a growth of  6.0 per cent per annum. A total of  47,728 persons or  82.3 per cent were recorded by paid full-time employees and  7,133 persons  (12.3%) were working proprietors and unpaid family workers. There  were  3,114 persons  (5.4%) recorded as part-time  employees. Meanwhile,  total salaries  & wages  paid  in  2015 was  RM1,330.5 million as compared to  RM775.6  million in 2010 which posted a growth of  11.4 per cent per annum. 

 

WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS 

In 2015, there were  776 women-owned establishments in arts, entertainment and recreation services as compared to  742 establishments in 2010. This total registered a growth of  0.9 per cent per annum. Value added  generated  by women-owned establishments in  arts, entertainment and recreation services was  RM150.1 million with  the annual growth rate of 6.3 per cent  as  compared to  2010. Women-owned  establishments  engaged  a  total  of  3,847  workers  with  salaries  &  wages  disbursed  amounted  to  RM58.6  million.
