INTRODUCTION

This report presents statistics on the financial services that was compiled based on Economic Census undertaken in 2016 for reference year 2015. Financial services comprises monetary intermediation activities; other financial service activities and activities auxiliary to financial services; insurance/takaful, reinsurance/retakaful and pension & provident funding activities; and activities auxiliary to insurance/takaful and pension funding.

PERFORMANCE OF FINANCIAL SERVICES

The results of the census showed that a total of 15,945 establishments were operated in financial services in year 2015.

Value of gross output generated by this services in 2015 was RM122.4 billion, with value added recorded at RM77.6 billion.

The number of persons engaged in financial services was 319,633 persons of which 315,921 persons or 98.8 per cent were paid full-time employees. A total of 1,873 persons (0.6%) were working proprietors & unpaid family workers while paid part-time employees were 1,839 persons (0.6%). Meanwhile, the total salaries & wages paid in 2015 was RM17.3 billion.

WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS

In 2015, there were 133 women-owned establishments in financial services. It was accounted for 0.8 per cent of the total establishments in this services.
