KEY FACTS
Malaysia’s trade maintained its upward trend in November 2021 with total trade expanding by 34.9 per cent, reaching RM205.5 billion as compared to RM152.3 billion in November 2020. Exports continued to increase by 32.4 per cent to RM112.2 billion compared to November 2020. Imports rose by 38.0 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in November 2021 amounted at RM93.3 billion. Trade balance recorded a surplus of RM18.9 billion with an increase of 10.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.
On a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, imports and total trade recorded a positive growth of 5.9 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively, while exports and trade balance contracted by 1.9 per cent and 28.1 per cent respectively.

Malaysia’s current account continued a surplus by recording RM19.0 billion in the final quarter of 2020, led by the higher net exports of Goods and smaller deficit in Primary income. The cumulative current account balance of all four quarters for 2020 recorded RM62.1 billion, the highest surplus since 2011. The annual higher surplus was steered by the favourable performance of Goods, lower deficit in Primary income and Secondary income.

Malaysia Trade Statistics Review is a DOSM initiative to produce statistics that incorporate several key indicators through different perspectives. This report provides information on the current scenario of Malaysia's trade and its relationship with other statistical indicators in the Department.
The report contains information on the Malaysia’s merchandise trade performance, the impact of COVID-19 on Malaysia’s trade, exports by SMEs, major imports of selected consumer goods, exports by state, foreign direct investment performance in Malaysia and trade performance links with other statistics produced by DOSM.

Malaysia’s recorded 2,922 foreign affiliates in 2015, an increase of 0.3 per cent from 2014. Manufacturing sector registered the largest share of 56.6 per cent followed by services sector (35.2%). Value added grew by 1.9 per cent with a value of RM222.9 billion. Manufacturing sector remained as the main contributor with a share of 45.5 per cent, followed by Mining sector (28.2%).
